An Introduction

Welcome to my blog.

This is an introduction as the tittle says. Duh.

This small post will have the objective of introducing you to me (if you are new to my work) and explain what is the main goal of this blog.

My name is André Varela and I am a photographer/writer from Portugal. I have been a photographer for 9 years making it into my profession on and off over that period of time. I also have a degree as a speech therapist which I have been doing for about 12 years. That was never my true calling though but more of a financial necessity. Because of that photography and writing kinda took a step back but now I am very excited to make it my main vocation.

For those that already know me you can ignore that part. You probably already read/saw/heard me ranting about it before.

So I decided to create a blog.

My main goal with this is more to provide help to to other artists (not necessarily photographers) by having resources, interviews, thoughts about certain topics, sharing my process, etc. All will be free of course, unless it is in my shop (coming soon) and in that case it’s cha ching for me.

I always liked to help.

A few years ago me and João Bacalhau had a project called Awake Platform (its not dead, just sleeping) where the main goal was to provide inspiration to artists in the form of challenges, interviews, etc. So this helping thing it’s not new, but I wanted to make it official.

You also can always expect me to be honest about my content even if it sucks. I am just human. I fail big time sometimes. Nonetheless I hope you stay for the ride.
